Growing up I remember spending as much time as possible outside playing and having fun. By myself or with my friends or family I was playing and having a great time. Because of those memories and remembering how much fun and I had and how much it taught me, I encourage my kids to be outside as much as possible. I love my kids, but when we are couped up in the house all the time, we start to act like a bunch of cats boxed up together.

I love encouraging outdoor play because it gets them out, interacting, imagining and creating. We go on a lot of adventures together (whether in our backyard or at a National Park) and they are all fun. One of my kids’ favorite places to go is the park. The playgrounds become a fantasy world for them as their imaginations transform them into castles, boats, jungles and everything in between. We often will take a picnic lunch or snacks and spend some time there.

Since me and my 5 year old are home most of the day together alone, we often go on small outings to the part and she has so much fun every time. To add another element of fun and adventure to her outdoor play I have made a fun printable outdoor activity sheet that they take with them. It encourages them to do a lot of different things that they may not have thought of or tried to do. Print out this Free printable Nature Scavenger Hunt activity sheet for kids and plan a trip to a Landscape Structures’ playground and enjoy a fun adventure with your kids.

You can take these to different parks and see what you can find that is different at each park. Have fun with it! Be sure to try and find a Landscape Structures playground by you. They are partnered with University of Minnesota’s Institute of Childhood Development to research how play helps develop the whole child. This is done by creating leaders, encouraging collaboration, and teaching about the values of persistence and problem solving and many of these lessons can be learned on the playground and at home.

Play is so important for kids. It teaches them so many different things like persistence, leadership, competition and bravery. They learn how to play with other kids and how to take turns. I love having my children play as often as possible because it keeps them engaged and active. We limit screen time for this very reason. Going to a playground is a great way to achieve all of this and let the kids have some fun social time. Landscape Structures’ playgrounds benefit people of all ages and abilities and we all enjoy playing on them and spending that time together.

This idea do seems very interesting. My daughter do like treasure hunt games a lot. I think this will be perfect for her.

That list is so cute. Those are the things my daughter picks up during ANY walk – lol!
